Brief Introduction

    South China Normal University (SCNU) was established in 1933. It is a comprehensive university, consisting of diverse branches of learning, such as education, economics, management, philosophy, law, literature, history, science, and engineering. As a prestigious provincial university, it is now the only "Project 211" university in Guangdong Province. The university’s three campuses total approximately 509 acres, located in Guangzhou Shipai, Guangzhou University Town, and Nanhai. It has a building area of 1.26 million square meters, including 3 multi-function information libraries with a total construction area of 88000 square meters and a collection of 3.20 million books. All campuses have a nice environment, beautiful views, and many places of historic figures and cultural heritage. The university is full of cultural atmosphere, providing teachers and students a perfect environment for study, work and living.

    At present, there are 8 departments in the School of Economics and Management, which are Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Accounting, E-business, Information Management, and International Economy & Trade. In addition, there are 8 institutes centered on Economics, Labor Economics, Human Resources Development and Management, National Economy, Library Science and Intelligence, Regional Economy, "Agriculture & Country & Farmer" and Urbanization. And there are 4 research centers including Modern Company Management, Tertiary Industry Economy, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Economy, Portfolio Investment.

    We have a postdoctoral research station for theoretic economics, doctorate authorization spots of political economics and labor economics, and a provincial key discipline of political economics. We have founded Guangdong Province Arts and Social Science Research Base—South China Market Economy Research Center. There are 13 authorization spots of master's degrees covering the first level of discipline of theoretic economics (including political economics, history of economic thought, western economics, world economy, economic history, population, resource and environmental economics), enterprise management, labor economics, finance, industry economics, national economics, library science and intelligence, and 8 undergraduate specialties. The school has come into a comparatively integrated economics and management subject talent training system of bachelor, master, doctor, and post doctorate degrees. It is also a very important academic and talent-training base of economics and management in South China.

Program Objectives

    SCNU MBA education adheres to development concept "looking to the future, absorbing others’ strong points, attracting elites, uniting theory and practice". It relies on a solid basis of economic management discipline to business or nonprofit organization managers or entrepreneurs to obtain an international perspective and localization capabilities, and hone innovative, entrepreneurial spirit, sense of social responsibility and the ability to unite theory and practice.

Program Features

■ Combination of Internationalization and Localization

    The program uses world-class MBA text books together with localized cases; cooperation of international and domestic faculty; internationally advanced MBA training model together with an MBA training model compatible with national conditions; international students and domestic students in a multi-culture group to improve their global vision and localization management.

■ Combination of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

    It combines MBA education and SCNU Entrepreneurship College education, and trains talents of innovation and entrepreneurship.

■ "Hard Skills" and "Soft Skills"

    On the one hand, it strengthens students’ "hard skills" such as basic theoretical knowledge, analytical thinking and problem solving; On the other hand, it focuses on the training of students' interpersonal skills, team spirit, social responsibility and other "soft skills".

■ Program Emphases

    The school takes into account the domestic and international socio-economic development situation and trends in industrial development, as well as the advantages of our school’s disciplines and research expertise, and sets the special MBA program emphases featuring human resources development and management, organization and strategy management, innovation and entrepreneurship management, corporate finance and capital operation, and corporate governance.

■ Implementation of "Double Mentors"

The school provides students with a professional mentor and also hires an outstanding entrepreneur outside of the university as a part-time MBA mentor.

  ■ Career Plan Service

    The school offers MBA students career development course, and provides them with career development counseling and a variety of job search advice. It makes full use of all resources and channels, and cooperates with MBA Association, Alumni Association to guide and help students with their employment.

Admission policy

1, The policy is consistent with SCNU's policy of recruiting MBA;

2, The only difference is that the international MBA applicants do not need to participate in the national exam. They can apply directly to the university.

Language Facility

    1, Applicants should reach the old HSK level 6 (New HSK level 5). Those who can't reach the required HSK level can apply to the school to study Chinese language first.

    2, English language proficiency should meet one of the following requirements:

        A, China's National English Examination Band 6, with certificate. Those who fail the test can then apply to the school to learn English first;

        B, International English IELTS 6.0 or more;

        C, TOEFL 1500 points or more;

        D, Or another internationally accredited English certificate.

Enrollment and tuition

■ Planned student enrollment: 30-50 students.

■ Tuition fees: total 70,000 yuan (including textbooks). Students pay for their own accommodation and transportation expenses.

Application Procedures

■ Application Requirements:

1, Applicants should be under the age of 55, healthy, and foreign citizens.

2, Applicants should reach the old HSK level 6 (New HSK level 5). Those who don’t reach the required

HSK level can apply to the school to study Chinese language first.

 3, Applicants shall meet one of the following requirements. The date September 1, 2012 shall

be used for calculation as the end of length of service:

A. After graduating from a three-year college, with work experience of 5 years or more;

B.After graduating from an undergraduate college, with work experience of 3 years or more;

C. Master's degree or PhD, and work experience of 2 years or more. 

Admission Procedures

    The same as domestic MBA student admission procedures. After qualification examination, the school will grant admission notice to the qualified candidates, and mail out admission notice in late June or early July 2012 (the exact time will be notified by SCNU MBA Education Center). The school examines application materials, verifies information about the applicant's academic background, language ability level and comprehensive capabilities, then grants admission and enrollment following relevant State and Government policies. From late June to mid July (the exact time will be notified by SCNU MBA Education Center) the fall admission notice will be sent to admitted students by mail.

Program Mode

1, The language of instruction: Chinese (Mandarin) supplemented with English. Some courses are only in English.

2, Study together with the domestic MBA students in the same class; weekend classes.

3, Combining special teaching activities.

Diploma and Degree-awarding

    Students are required to successfully complete course work and a master thesis and thesis defense within the required time period. After meeting the above requirements and with the approval of the University Degree Committee, the student will be awarded the diploma and master degree certificate of Business Administration formulated unitarily by SCNU and nationally recognized by the state.
